Reviews for Roy Alexander FitnessJulia H. (June 2012): When I first started working with Roy, I wasn’t sure I would make it beyond a week - his classes are that rigorous. I have been an athlete my whole life, but this training challenged me in new ways, building strength and cardio stamina. We are all looking for that perfect workout that is going to whip us into shape, but it is Roy himself who keeps me coming back. More than an instructor, Roy is my coach. He made it his business to learn my strengths and weaknesses, and stays on top of me, especially on the days I try hardest to slip under his notice. He encourages me to be conscious of my eating habits in order to help me toward my goals. Getting into the gym and sweating your heart out at 6am isn’t ever going to be what one would call “fun,” but when your trainer is 100% committed to being there and driving you, its hard not to get caught up in that energy. I never knew I could push myself this hard. I PR’d in the Brookyln Half Marathon this year, which I give full credit to the conditioning and support I received from Roy. K.C. (July 2012): When I made the decision to engage the expertise of a personal trainer, I had no physical fitness goals in mind. The gym and exercise were always something that I had a love/hate (more hate) relationship with and because of genetics, I did not feel that I really needed a trainer. Nevertheless, motivated in large part by the choice to end a long-term personal relationship, I felt I was going to need all the tools I had at my disposal – and a personal trainer was part of my ammunition, no matter the financial commitment. Roy was referred to me and I called him to schedule our first appointment. Immediately, I was drawn to his professionalism and friendly demeanor. He helped me to establish a physical fitness routine that gave me the discipline I needed to incorporate exercise into my life. It was that simple – Roy made a commitment to me for an hour-long session, no matter rain, snow or sunshine and I, in turn, had to simply commit to show up and he would motivate, encourage and inspire me to push through. However, that commitment was not only for the hour-long session, Roy was always sure to send a friendly message, just to give me words of encouragement. He established a trusting relationship with me, and at times my fitness sessions, became in part, therapy sessions. The mental distraction, coupled with my newly toned body, did so much to help me through what was one of the most difficult times in my life and a lot of this, I owe to Roy. After my training sessions came to an end, I started taking his classes, offered at a local gym. We all joke that Roy has a fan club, and somehow, he does. He is amazing at what he does and what sets him apart from other trainers that I have worked with in the past, is something that cannot be taught! Thank you, Roy. B.A. (July 2012): Roy Alexander's boot camp classes are, by far, the BEST group fitness classes that i have ever taken. Roy has an endless evolving repertoire of exercises that will keep your heart racing, mind engaged, and leave your muscles spent in a way that clearly feels so good. His class is really differentiated by the amount of personal attention he provides, his ability to raise your fitness awareness, and his natural ability to motivate students with his infectious energy. Even after a year of being a regular, I feel challenged, energized, and inspired to set the bar higher in aspects of my life that extend beyond fitness. Ana R. on “Toned Lean & Confident” classes (July 2011): I can't say enough good things about Roy and TLC. When I first started working out with Roy, I thought "working out" was running in the park and maybe doing a few sit-ups. I never picked up a weight and thought that working out was a "necessary evil" so that I can indulge in my red wine and chocolate desserts. Now, I feel like working out is a part of my everyday routine and don't feel right if I don't do something active. Roy and TLC taught me that being healthy is a way of life. In fact, I don't even crave all the junk that I did before. The most important thing that I learned is that weight doesn't matter. I used to be obsessed with the scale. I didn't lose that many pounds but I went from a size 6 to a size 2 or 4 depending on the style and feel great. The TLC program is amazing! I love the circuit training which involves extensive cardio and weights and Roy pushes us harder than I thought possible - leaving class all sweaty and feeling a little pain the next morning makes me feel like I really worked out. More importantly, I always leave class completely invigorated for the day and happy. The class's energy and Roy's great sense of humor makes the hour go by so quickly! The camaraderie of the class is unlike anything I've seen before. People really get to know one another and even hung out after class. Roy also takes note of your personal life and really cares about your physical and emotional well being. I had a personal loss and Roy would check in on me to see how I was doing. One night, I had a corporate dinner right before weigh in and getting a personal text from Roy gave me the encouragement to stay strong and not indulge. Roy provided the support (and care) I was looking for. I paid for a group class but got the one-on-one attention of a personal trainer. If I can sum up the class in two words I would say effective and fun! Roy is always coming up with some new crazy move so it never gets stale. I am so happy with the results but more importantly my new outlook on food and working out! Thanks Roy. Natalie I. on “Toned Lean & Confident” classes (April 2011): Since I started in March of this year, I have lost a total of 21lbs and 7% body fat, but to me these numbers don’t mean as much as this experience, that I wouldn't trade for the world. When I first started this program, I was shy, fat (in my eyes), ugly, antisocial, lazy, and weak. Now I feel strong, energetic, happy, excited about life, extremely strong, the list goes on and on. I love playing with my daughter, now, when before it was a struggle to get off the couch. I have energy that I have never had before. I have muscles that I have never seen before; my calves, abs, arms, back, my feet have even gotten smaller, and I have Roy to thank for all of it. The first day of TLC, I felt intimidated. I remember seeing Niki, Cassandra, and Jonathan for the first time and thinking,“what the hell am I getting myself into?” But then I saw Stephanie, it was her first day too and by the end of the class we both had almost vomited and passed out, and I said "ok at least I'm not alone". Now Stephanie and I can carry more than 20lbs. on barbells, 20lbs, on dumbbells, and are stronger than ever. TLC is my family away from home and each and every one of its members inspires me to be better, faster and stronger. TLC has surpassed my expectations, it has taught me things that I would never thought to have gained from a workout class. From Roy, the creator of it all, to all my classmates, I have learned to love every part of myself, to call myself beautiful every day, and to feel great about how I look. Roy and TLC have taught me how to live my life and be a happier and most importantly healthier person. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, TLC and would recommend it to everybody who needs a trainer who will inspire you everyday to make healthy changes, and who will teach you how to be healthier and happier - one who is not only a mentor but also a friend. If you are looking for a family of supportive girls and guys who help inspire you throughout your entire journey, then this is the class for you. Stefanie M. New York, NY 6/3/2013
