Reviews for Roy Alexander Fitness

Julia H. (June 2012):
When I first started working with Roy, I wasn’t sure I would make it beyond a week - his classes are that rigorous. I have been an athlete my whole life, but this training challenged me in new ways, building strength and cardio stamina. We are all looking for that perfect workout that is going to whip us into shape, but it is Roy himself who keeps me coming back. More than an instructor, Roy is my coach. He made it his business to learn my strengths and weaknesses, and stays on top of me, especially on the days I try hardest to slip under his notice. He encourages me to be conscious of my eating habits in order to help me toward my goals. Getting into the gym and sweating your heart out at 6am isn’t ever going to be what one would call “fun,” but when your trainer is 100% committed to being there and driving you, its hard not to get caught up in that energy. I never knew I could push myself this hard. I PR’d in the Brookyln Half Marathon this year, which I give full credit to the conditioning and support I received from Roy.

K.C. (July 2012):
When I made the decision to engage the expertise of a personal trainer, I had no physical fitness goals in mind. The gym and exercise were always something that I had a love/hate (more hate) relationship with and because of genetics, I did not feel that I really needed a trainer. Nevertheless, motivated in large part by the choice to end a long-term personal relationship, I felt I was going to need all the tools I had at my disposal – and a personal trainer was part of my ammunition, no matter the financial commitment. Roy was referred to me and I called him to schedule our first appointment. Immediately, I was drawn to his professionalism and friendly demeanor. He helped me to establish a physical
fitness routine that gave me the discipline I needed to incorporate exercise into my life. It was that simple – Roy made a commitment to me for an hour-long session, no matter rain, snow or sunshine and I, in turn, had to simply commit to show up and he would motivate, encourage and inspire me to push through. However, that commitment was not only for the hour-long session, Roy was always sure to send a friendly message, just to give me words of encouragement. He established a trusting relationship with me, and at times my fitness sessions, became in part, therapy sessions. The mental distraction, coupled with my newly toned body, did so much to help me through what was one of the most difficult times in my life and a lot of this, I owe to Roy. After my training sessions came to an end, I started taking his classes, offered at a local gym. We all joke that Roy has a fan club, and somehow, he does. He is amazing at what he does and what sets him apart from other trainers that I have worked with in the past, is something that cannot be taught! Thank you, Roy.

B.A. (July 2012):
Roy Alexander's boot camp classes are, by far, the BEST group fitness classes that i have ever taken. Roy has an endless evolving repertoire of exercises that will keep your heart racing, mind engaged, and leave your muscles spent in a way that clearly feels so good. His class is really differentiated by the amount of personal attention he provides, his ability to raise your fitness awareness, and his natural ability to motivate students with his infectious energy. Even after a year of being a regular, I feel challenged, energized, and inspired to set the bar higher in aspects of my life that extend beyond fitness.

Ana R. on “Toned Lean & Confident” classes (July 2011):
I can't say enough good things about Roy and TLC. When I first started working out with Roy, I thought "working out" was running in the park and maybe doing a few sit-ups. I never picked up a weight and thought that working out was a "necessary evil" so that I can indulge in my red wine and chocolate desserts. Now, I feel like working out is a part of my everyday routine and don't feel right if I don't do something active. Roy and TLC taught me that being healthy is a way of life. In fact, I don't even crave all the junk that I did before. The most important thing that I learned is that weight doesn't matter. I used to be obsessed with the scale. I didn't lose that many pounds but I went from a size 6 to a size 2 or 4 depending on the style and feel great. The TLC program is amazing! I love the circuit training which involves extensive cardio and weights and Roy pushes us harder than I thought possible - leaving class all sweaty and feeling a little pain the next morning makes me feel like I really worked out. More importantly, I always leave class completely invigorated for the day and happy. The class's energy and Roy's great sense of humor makes the hour go by so quickly! The camaraderie of the class is unlike anything I've seen before. People really get to know one another and even hung out after class. Roy also takes note of your personal life and really cares about your physical and emotional well being. I had a personal loss and Roy would check in on me to see how I was doing. One night, I had a corporate dinner right before weigh in and getting a personal text from Roy gave me the encouragement to stay strong and not indulge. Roy provided the support (and care) I was looking for. I paid for a group class but got the one-on-one attention of a personal trainer. If I can sum up the class in two words I would say effective and fun! Roy is always coming up with some new crazy move so it never gets stale. I am so happy with the results but more importantly my new outlook on food and working out! Thanks Roy.

Natalie I. on “Toned Lean & Confident” classes (April 2011):
Since I started in March of this year, I have lost a total of 21lbs and 7% body fat, but to me these numbers don’t mean as much as this experience, that I wouldn't trade for the world. When I first started this program, I was shy, fat (in my eyes), ugly, antisocial, lazy, and weak. Now I feel strong, energetic, happy, excited about life, extremely strong, the list goes on and on. I love playing with my daughter, now, when before it was a struggle to get off the couch. I have energy that I have never had before. I have muscles that I have never seen before; my calves, abs, arms, back, my feet have even gotten smaller, and I have Roy to thank for all of it. The first day of TLC, I felt intimidated. I remember seeing Niki, Cassandra, and Jonathan for the first time and thinking,“what the hell am I getting myself into?” But then I saw Stephanie, it was her first day too and by the end of the class we both had almost vomited and passed out, and I said "ok at least I'm not alone". Now Stephanie and I can carry more than 20lbs. on barbells, 20lbs, on dumbbells, and are stronger than ever. TLC is my family away from home and each and every one of its members inspires me to be better, faster and stronger. TLC has surpassed my expectations, it has taught me things that I would never thought to have gained from a workout class. From Roy, the creator of it all, to all my classmates, I have learned to love every part of myself, to call myself beautiful every day, and to feel great about how I look. Roy and TLC have taught me how to live my life and be a happier and most importantly healthier person. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, TLC and would recommend it to everybody who needs a trainer who will inspire you everyday to make healthy changes, and who will teach you how to be healthier and happier - one who is not only a mentor but also a friend. If you are looking for a family of supportive girls and guys who help inspire you throughout your entire journey, then this is the class for you.

  • I should make space for Family and Friends to comment on my increase in  confidence and how I can't stop going on about what a positive guide Roy is thru knowledge,  accessibility and thru his workout routines.
  • I came to Roy first thru Gold's Gym and it was the first time I actually started to believe in myself and see results. I was showing up, I was committing to it and for the first time I was really getting past just wanting to drop weight. It was opening up so much more for me on a personal level and I realize now how much my mood had lifted.  I've never been athletic and my fitness regime was usually casual.  Struggling with my weight year in and out, trying different formulas, it always comes down to the teacher when looking for that guidance toward success.  I can honestly say if you are open to it, you will find that in Roy.   I went away for a year, had some personal challenges to work thru and as I discarded what was no longer working to move me in a positive direction, I thought about exactly when I was feeling my best. No brainer of course!  Training with Roy for that period of time I was taking care of myself, my mind was clear, and I was aware of my body in a positive way thru challenges as well as commitment.  So I am back and of course the beginning is always challenging, but with a great coach, trainer, and guide like Roy, you show up, you put the work in and he won't let you down! First it start's with you finally just taking the leap to care for your well being and Roy will be as committed to you as you are to yourself!!
  • Classes are affordable and the website is a breeze to manage when scheduling classes.  I also find it very inviting that each time I attend his classes, the people always have such a great supportive vibe about them.  Never intimidation or pretentious feeling that comes along with most boot camps.

  • I've been working out w Roy for three months after not working out for years. He comes to me, he is really competitively priced, but most of all I'm seeing results AND having so much fun. All of which is an amazing feeling.  I used to think of working out akin to going to the dentist - I can see working out w Roy becoming a mainstay in my life. He is really amazing at adapting the exercise to hit exactly where it makes a difference. He is incredibly good at keeping the challenge going without ever feeling boring and  without pushing me to the point where it feels beyond reach.  We've set goals that I can't believe I'm going to achieve, yet I know, with Roy I will.  I was in two minds about yelping. I want to spread the word of his genius -- but I hope he will always be available!!

  • I have been working out with Roy for over two years from the gym to Central Park, from group classes to bootcamp to personal training.  I'm used to pushing myself, but it's a whole different story when I'm at bootcamp with Roy.  He cares about what motivates us - whether we're simply trying to keep in shape, get fit for a wedding, train for a race - he tailors classes to make sure each of us is hitting our goals.  I beat my previous time, running the Brooklyn Half in an 1hr45min with his support and his unwavering attention to my cardio fitness.  Sometimes I wish he would look the other way when I want to lie with my face pressed to the pavement, but nope...he's there telling me to stop slacking off and up I go again. The results make it worth it.
  • We work hard, but we also have a great time.  When I picture bootcamp I imagine group counting with strangers.....there is none of that.  Bootcamp is an excuse for us to work out in Central Park - RAIN OR SHINE!  And while we started out as strangers, we have all gotten to know each other so well at this point that it is always a laugh.  If you're thinking about joining us, do!  Roy is the best coach I've ever had.

  • GOT ROY?  Just like vitamin-fortified, premium, organic milk, Roy builds strong bones and bodies.  Those who have tried Roy's class know that a daily dose of Roy leads to happier, healthier, fitter lives.
  • Roy's indoor fitness class at West End Sports club is a heart pumping mix of high intensity plyometrics and weight training designed to strengthen and tone.  His workouts are second to none and are carefully constructed to target specific muscle groups depending on the focus of the class.
  • A typical boot camp will start with Roy perusing the room for new attendees, asking for their names and to identify any injuries.  Class then commences with a warm up to get the heart racing with moves like high knees and side jumps. The core of the class is broken up into 10-15 minute intervals of high intensity moves that leave you with barely enough breath to pick up your weights for the toning segments.  While you lie in a puddle of your own sweat and exhaustion, Roy will personally egg you on with words of motivation and a much needed corny joke or two.  By the end of the class, you will already be looking forward to your next session of TLC.  Roy will make sure that your next class is well worth your while.  Class is always changing, always challenging, and always high-energy fun!
  • What makes Roy such a first rate fitness instructor is his ability to motivate, inspire, and educate.   He cares enough to get to know all of his class patrons, their ailments and motivation.  I am in awe of the transformation he has helped his clients achieve- both physically and mentally.  Don't take my word for it, try Roy's class and let him make a believer of you.  Got Roy?

  • We all work out for a variety of reasons, but ultimately we are seeking results. The results may vary from individual to individual. That is why there is no trainer out there better than Roy Alexander.
  • The most impressive aspect of Roy's fitness program and approach is its motivating power. You get results. Roy's approach fully engages the natural dispositions of the body and mind.
  • I have been working out for a number of years, and I have taken group fitness classes as well as personal training sessions. When we start to do either, it more often than not, becomes a disappointment. We start out so eager to train, only to discover our teachers are not really teaching us how to maximize our efforts. This is because many trainers don't posses the ability to create an original  program nor to execute it. They don't learn your individual needs or goal. They merely approach it as a matter of routine.

  • Roy is a contrast to that trend. His workout and his postive attitude transend the ordinary. His workout is never routine; it is always challenging and fresh. This keeps that motivating power at a high. It makes things exciting and tough which means you never lose interest. You want to achieve ever higher levels of success.
  • His program is not for the feint of heart. At the end of each session, there is a pleasant exhaustion that you feel as well as pride in the fact that you accomplished something important. Not a typical thing with most classes/trainers. But then again, Roy is not your typical trainer. He's not just about the movements or the workout. Roy really cares about you and your results, and the quality of his work.
  • His approach encompasses a full body of knowledge about health and fitness. He is always expanding that knowledge, like any outstanding professional in their field. He then shares this with his clients. The ultimate profit is in his clients. Profits need to be tied to healthful outcomes. That's why I feel a multi-millionaire for having Roy as my trainer. I have never been in better shape in my life.
  • If you want an amazing workout with real results, then go with Roy.
  • I have finally found THE workout that I have been searching for all these years. I wouldn't give it up for anything. It's the best.
  • Results matter.
