Is a High Fat Intake diet for athletes risky?

The NY Times posted an article about Fat v. Carbs for endurance athletes. Although there are pertinent points that the article leaves out, it is along the lines of what I've been espousing for over a decade.

Fat is a athlete friendly fuel. And for those who have trained with me know that I truly embrace this concept. 

However there are some who asked me if the higher fat diet is risky.  So I'm posting this...
