Everyone should question the advice they receive. I have always been especially wary of celebrity trainers and fitness/lifestyle blogs. Instead of criticizing Jillian Michaels, I am going to offer a few strategies you can employ if you are looking to stop over-eating and be socially responsible. :)
- Try portion control. Divide your food into reusable containers and FREEZE what you don't plan on eating BEFORE you take your first bite.
- Try conscious eating. If you are not one to mindfully enjoy your food, take steps to slow down the meal. Take a picture of your plate and share it on social media. You will be less likely to overeat if you say
you are only having what is in front of you.
- Tell someone else what you are eating. Some of my clients struggle with their diet and text me foods they are considering for a meal. I can help them make better decisions in real-time. They usually also end up eating less than they normally would.
- If the remainder of the meal still looks appetizing and you are full, close the container and offer it to a homeless individual but do it respectfully. Say something along the lines of... "hey man, I was saving half of this burrito for dinner, but I thought you might like to have it instead" Don't feel offended if the guy/gal says 'no thanks'. I once offered a guy an apple and he flat out reject it but I soon realized it was because he has no teeth.
