How much poop is in your burger? Is it bad?

8/26/2015

FitCampNYC shares a Consumer Report story about the fecal bacteria found in your burger. Is it bad? What can you do to minimize the bacteria?

Is there poop bacteria in your burger?!

Depends, is it organic? You just can’t kill the bacteria in some hamburger. New tests by Consumer Reports found conventional ground beef had twice as many antibiotic-resistant superbugs than beef raised in more sustainable ways. http://qz.com/487284/big-beef-yeah-theres-fecal-matter-in-your-burgers-no-big-deal/

The upside is all beef is "safer than ever" and the dangerous bacteria can be killed by cooking your burger all the way through at 160 degrees  or more.

Water, water everywhere!  Including in the food you eat.  (No need to force 64 ounces a day, it's plentiful in your food and drinks throughout the day.)...There is no science behind a formal, one-size-fits-all requirement of daily water consumption.  http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/25/upshot/no-you-do-not-have-to-drink-8-glasses-of-water-a-day.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

A new study shows that "Stress" may lead to poor food choices, turning your brain into a candy focused organ! Read about it at RoyAlexanderFitness.com blog.

If stress causes you to make poor choices, do the following 5 steps,

1.Don't keep tempting candy/food near you. 2. If it's near you, wait 5 minutes to see if you can override the desire. 3. Walk or distract yourself for those 5 minutes. If you still feel the need. 4. Give it deep thought and 5. write out why you are better off avoiding the candy. http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0QA21Q20150805

FitCampNYC warns of the "healthy foods" that have a huge dose of sugar. Here is a Low-Fat Frozen Yogurt that has more sugar than ice cream. See the movie "That Sugar Film" to learn more.

How much sugar is in your "healthy snack"?

I often have clients who swear they eat healthy, and for the most part they do. What they don't realize is how prevalent sugar and high fructose syrup is in foods we don't associate as needing sugar or being sweet.  Low-Fat Frozen Yogurt is a good example, it has 22g. of sugar per serving or a whopping 88g. per pint!!

Here is "That Sugar Film" that tackles this very subject of hidden sugars that could lead to obvious weight gain and in this case, elevated fatty liver markers.  http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/mar/03/that-sugar-film-how-60-days-eating-health-food-led-fatty-liver-disease

Look 20 years younger? I'll go with possibly feeling 20 years younger. Here is a solid, partial list of healthy foods to eat on frequent basis. I believe there are no Superfoods or that you need to "cleanse", however there are foods that are more nutrient dense than others and this is a good list to start with.

Why do women feel the A/C needs to be adjusted

8/3/2015

Why do women freeze in the office? Do you or your female do-workers dress like a burrito?

Is the a/c set at a reasonable temperature?

A study by Dutch scientists says most office buildings set temperatures based on a model developed in the 1960s that uses the metabolic rates of men.
