I want to extend a huge congratulations to one of my regular FitCampers for running his first road race and completely owning it! Garret Gee rocked a solid 8:18 pace per mile at the Queens 10K race this past weekend, especially impressive for someone who used to consider himself a "non-runner". In two months time, a combination of weekend FitCamp sessions, individual plyometric training, clean eating (mostly), and approximately two ~six-mile runs a week has scored Garret a brag-worthy performance. When asked why he did it, Garret replied "I just wanted the BLING!" Unfortunately this year, NYRR opted to give out tech shirts instead of medals. I guess Garret will have to run another race!
An inspiring example of a little commitment going a long way! A FitCamper had way to much time and created this animated GIF of endless V-up crunches out of pictures I took yesterday. I didn't catch a picture of her fully extended but her form was dead on in person! She's definitely having more success than this chubby little bear. 80% of people have back ache and/or pain! Share this article, it's bound to help someone in your circle of friends. We'll talk about it tonight at FitCamp. Tonight we'll push hard. Tomorrow morning at 6:30 am along with Saturday at 11:15 am and Sunday at 11:30 am we will incorporate lower back work to strengthen the core and stave off back aches. Come, workout, sweat and save your back! NYTimes: Seeking Alternatives for Back Pain Relief
Try FitCamp in Fort Greene Park today at 7:15 PM! Fort Greene Park sports uber lush green lawns, open benches, four flights of stairs (for your victorious ROCKY-like sprint to the top), NO Central Park tourist crowds, and plenty of cute doggies at which to Oogle while you sweat up a storm!! If that doesn't sound like fun...
Starting tomorrow, July 9th we are introducing a 7:00 AM class in Central Park. It's one fewer excuse to miss fitness camp! Since we can't all squeeze in a good burn everyday, classes are tailored to those who attend. Next time you're in class, feel free to put in a special request!
Book now for the 7:00 am class and see you in the park tomorrow! We meet at the water fountain in front of Ferrara Cafe (closest to Central Park South). P.S. Evening classes are coming! SEE THE FITCAMP SCHEDULE CHANGES BELOW
Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the boot camp. Here are some of the comments. - "It was so intense :-( but I'm so out of shape and I was able to handle some of it. I will be back!" - "Tough workout but worth it." - "Love it & exceeded my expectations. Can't wait for next class" - "Simply died but in the best way possible. I know I will be feeling it in the morning because I feel it now. The instructor is great and does not cut you any slack...but boot camp isn't supposed to. Looking forward to my next class, I will definitely be ready for the spartan race, without a doubt." - "Very good workout., and I like Roy. Wish the schedule was a little more robust (only 2 evening classes a week)" You have been heard! I will be adding classes! See the additional Thursday evening class. Wednesday evening Fitcamp may be moved to Central Park as well. An extra class will be held this Thursday at 10:00 AM. We meet at 63rd and Central Park West. This will be a high fat-burning class so you can enjoy your July fourth BBQ guilt-free! ![]() The boisterous revelers who permeated Times Square at the turn of 2013, are either in your rear-view mirror or a harbinger of 2014 because today we are at the half-way point, 6 months into the year! And it's time for a gut check. Seriously. Take a look at your abs. They are a good general indicator of your health. No, you do not need a six pack to say you have arrived.
Sit down and write out your new, achievable mid-year resolution. Then write down how you are going to get to mountaintop from where you stand now. Start with small steps.
The bottom-line is to make progress. Don't have the same conversation you had with yourself in 2014 that you had on the eve of 2013. Do something today!! |
