After reading the article, a prominent question came to mind.
The article suggests that if you are 50-64 years old and get 20% of your calories from protein then your likelihood of getting cancer is no different from that of a habitual smoker!! But nowhere does the article discuss the type of protein being consumed. Were the participants of the study eating Mcdonalds beef patties or free range organic chicken? There are too many variables that are known to impact health but ignored in the study. Like I have always said the quality of food is far more important than the quantity. The linkage between high protein diet and diabetes is also a head-scratcher. Only sugars will cause an insulin spike associated with the disease which makes me wonder if the carbohydrates consumed by participants were refined or simple sugar foods.
