How a doctor and a lawmaker want you to believe that baking soda can cure cancer. NO!!

2/27/2015

A lawmaker and a doctor who believe saltwater and baking soda can cure cancer.  NO!!!

Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore believes cancer is “a fungus” which can be cured by “flushing, let’s say, salt water, sodium carbonate” through the body." What happened to responsible people acting responsibly?http://wapo.st/1JRb2kq

Apparently you have to take a doctor's advice with a grain of...baking soda. @FitCampNYC wants to highlight the fact that you should question everything! Even if a doctor or a lawmaker tell you it's good. (in this case, it isn't)

Most athletes believe high-carb diets are the best way to enhance performance. But there may be some benefits to a high-fat diet instead.

Is a High Fat Intake diet for athletes risky?

2/26/2015

The NY Times posted an article about Fat v. Carbs for endurance athletes. Although there are pertinent points that the article leaves out, it is along the lines of what I've been espousing for over a decade.

Fat is a athlete friendly fuel. And for those who have trained with me know that I truly embrace this concept.

However there are some who asked me if the higher fat diet is risky.  So I'm posting this...

Should you love Chipotle? Calorie and nutrition information you can use.

2/20/2015

Many of my clients and their coworkers seek out Chipotles for a quick, healthier alternative to Burger King.  But they rarely know how many calories they are consuming or how heart healthy it really is or isn't.  Now you have it!

Here is nutritional information you can use to make a better decision.

Have this ready when it comes to grabbing your lunch or share it with your coworkers.

Anti-vaccine (measles) believer?

2/7/2015

I have come across a smattering of people who are against vaccinations because they believe that being "natural" is the better option. Here is a more colorful view on this subject. It comes from Liz in Redmond, WA.

To all of those anti-vaccine proponents:

“You want a more natural lifestyle? I kind of doubt it. Nature is red of tooth and claw, full of venoms and poisons, replete with constantly hungry things that have sharp teeth and talons, a place where babies are good eats. Nature does not give two hoots about you personally. There are no roads in nature, no schools or laws (except those of evolution), no Whole Foods, and certainly no doctors or hospitals to rescue you from your foolish decisions.

But that’s your call, not mine. I won’t stand in your way as you take your chances in a world full of creatures, from big to microscopic, who think you look *delicious*. On your way out of town, though, feel free to stop by. We’ll take a walk through the local cemetery, and I’ll show you the graves of children who died in epidemics. Families lost five, seven, ten kids at a time, dead of diseases that we can now prevent with vaccines. They would have stood in line for the opportunity that you’re throwing away.”

Which is the best diet pill? Consumer Reports weighs in.

2/5/2015

Hey Roy which diet pills will help with weight loss?

Consumer Report echos my feelings on diet pills and appetite suppressants, read their findings below.

The trouble with diet pills: For starters, they don’t work.
Supplements and prescription drugs may be tempting ways to lose weight, but other methods are better without horrible side effects like ...anal leakage or surprise poop.

At best you lose 6 lbs. more than the control groups, however dizziness, vomiting and insomnia are the possible trade/offs.

Advice: Skip those drugs and stick with a sound eating lifestyle and exercise to drop pounds.

How prevalent is fraud in supplements?

2/3/2015

Walmart, GNC, Walgreen and Target herbal supplements may be contaminated with fraudulent and/or unlisted ingredients.

Some of these cheap fillers could also put people with certain food allergies at risk!

This is the major issue! They may not but in the the herbs they claim on the bottle, even more disturbing is they found certain allergens used as fillers. This puts the public health at risk. Should you have a reaction you can't even trace it back to the source. That is extremely dangerous.

See the supplements sampled and what the independent study found...

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/02/03/sidebar-whats-in-those-supplements/?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

New York’s attorney general said that tests on popular store brands of herbal supplements at Walmart, Walgreens, Target and GNC found that roughly four out of five of the products contained none of the herbs listed on the labels.

There may be unlisted ingredients in herbal supplements that may make you sick if you have allergies. The scary part is that you wouldn't be able to trace your steps back to source. The NYS Attorney General may have uncovered a scary little secret. More info on the RoyAlexanderFitness.com blog
