Today is a sad day for running nerds like myself.
On this day in 1975 Pre lost his life after he crashed his car.
Just 24 years old, he left an indelible footprint in our running culture.
I was lucky enough to run for Nike and be immersed in that culture. It was there that you realize his presence looms larger than life.
He was a major influence in my life.
If it wasn't for Pre my life would be different.
He, in the metaphorical sense, gave me access to elite coaches who taught me and runners who shared everything related to running and coaching that you still don't see in print. Knowledge that is invaluable and in short supply, yet we get excited to share it all when somebody wants in to the circle.
Decades later Pre is still an inspiration to many runners and athletes for various reasons.
Hope Pre is enjoying another bell lap today!
Thanks Pre.
